Safety Guidlines

– Recommended that all pilots use 900Mhz bandwidth in addition to 2.4Ghz in their radios and receivers.    (The report mentions only jets, but the Board is recommending this for all pilots.   This is a recommendataion, not a requirement).    Futaba, JETI and FrSky have 900Mhz capability (with certain models of radios and receivers).    CORE and Spectrum do not offer 900Mhz.

-  Redundant receivers should be used, where practical

- Receiver antenna placement and orientation should compliy exactly with the manaufacturers’ documentation (including avoiding placing antenna near carbon fiber, power cables, batteries, etc).

– The flightline should have a “clean” WIFI environment (pillots should disable WIFI / Bluetooth on any cell phones, smart watches, laptops, cars at the field)

– All new planes should be range-checked with their engines running and in different orientations to the radio

– All percieved radio “hits” (loss of signal between the radio and the plane) should be reported to one of the club Saftey Officers (Leon, Sal)

– All planes should have Failsafe setup

– Always fly to the east of the flightline (especially on the north side of the field)

The Board is making these recommendations in order to help foster the safest flying environment possible at Floyd Bennet.     That said, the responsibility of setting up and flying a safe airplane rests primarily with each pilot.
